The Rangers spotted the Indians a 7-1 lead after four innings, then staged a furious comeback to tie the game at 8-8 and send it to extra innings. The valiant effort came up short in the 11th inning, however, when Ryan Raburn hit a three-run, walk-off homer, winning 11-8.
Reliever Justin Frasor pitched the ninth and 10th innings for the Rangers, and skipper Ron Washington stuck with him in the 11th, but Frasor allowed consecutive singles before giving up the Raburn homer.
In 562 major league appearances, Frasor had gone three innings only three times previously, the last outing coming in May of 2007. The Rangers are now 1-7 in extra-inning games this season, and lost for the first time in 30 games this season when scoring six or more runs.
Starter Martin Perez gave up seven runs, six of them earned, on eight hits in three innings and five batters in the fourth, walking two and striking out three.
The Rangers return Yu Darvish to the mound against the Indians' Justin Masterson. Game time is set for 6:05 pm on Fox Sports Southwest.
