NBA free agency is up and running. Starting at 12:01 AM Eastern time on Monday morning teams were allowed to start talking to players. Reportedly Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak had a brief face-to-face meeting with his own free agent, Dwight Howard.
There's no doubt that Howard is the top prize on the market and reportedly he had a late night dinner already with the Rockets. The Mavericks are expected to make their pitch to Howard tomorrow. Money isn't the difference for anyone except the Lakers. L-A can re-sign their own free agent for five years and 117 million dollars. Everyone else, Mavs included, can offer just four years and 88 million. The pitch is what else the team has to offer.
The Mavericks have kept their powder dry hoping to land a big free agent this summer. If not, it's back to plan B, C, D, or even E.
