Norm and D Invasion 6/13/17
Monday morning, Norm and Donovan kicked off the week talking about Game 5 of the NBA finals, in which the Warriors won their second championship in three years. The Warriors capped off a 16-1 playoff run, and finished 32-2 over their last 34 games. Norm spoke of the demoralizing nature of the Cavaliers’ performance, specifically pointing out how the team dictated the exact pace that the team had hoped for, and shot the ball extremely well from the perimeter. Norm mentioned that Cleveland’s main assets outside of Lebron James and Kyrie Irving were extremely ineffective throughout the series. Kevin Love, Iman Shumpert, Kyle Korver, and Deron Williams shot just under 33 percent, and got only 28 total points and rebounds from starting center Tristan Thompson.
Norm and Donovan proceeded to discuss the Finals MVP, Kevin Durant. The controversy over his scrutinized move to the Bay Area from Oklahoma City sparked debates over whether or not Durant made the proper decision to bolt from the Thunder. Norm and Donovan defended the decision, saying that Durant made a decision that for the first time in his career is allowing him to have fun in his new home. Norm pointed out the Cleveland Cavaliers’ outstanding season, and their stature as clearly the second-best team in the NBA still wasn’t anywhere near enough to take down the Warriors, suggesting Golden State is in line for a dynasty. Norm and Donovan recalled the super team that used to be the Oklahoma City Thunder, which consisted of Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, and James Harden, and how that team inexplicably never secured an NBA championship.
At the 11:20 mark, Norm and Donovan discussed the Texas Rangers’ draft haul from last night. Two first round picks and one second round pick gave the Rangers a decent infusion of youth for the long haul. Selecting outfielder Bubba Thompson with their first pick, the Rangers added a group of high schoolers to their developmental group of players. Norm and Donovan mentioned the typically up and down nature of the Rangers’ farm system with hopes of the Rangers coaches developing their newest Rangers into stout contributors down the road.
