“Coach Bro” agrees to contract extension with Texas Tech

Texas Tech head football coach Kliff Kingsbury will be in Lubbock for the foreseeable future, as the former Red Raider quarterback agreed to an extension which will keep him as coach through 2020, as announced by the university on Twitter on Friday.

Kingsbury's salary in 2015, reportedly $3.1 million, would put him among the top 20 highest paid coaches in the FBS, according to USA Today. The deal will take effect on September 1. He will earn a prorated amount of $1.5 million for 2014. His salary will go up $200,000 every year, topping out at $4.1 million, guaranteed, in 2020.

There are also bonus incentives if Kingsbury can lead the Red Raiders to an outright Big 12 title, a championship game appearance and another for a championship game win.

In Kingsbury's first year at the helm at his alma mater in 2013, he led Texas Tech to a Holiday Bowl victory, capping an 8-5 season record.
