Derek Holland’s Surgery More Serious

The Rangers expressing hope that Derek Holland can return by the All Star Break if not sooner. Holland having surgery on his left knee last week, claiming he was hurt when his dog tripped him up on the stairs.

The team admitting now that Holland had microfracture surgery on the knee last week. That's the process where holes are drilled in the bone to promote the growth of new cartilage. Many players take well over half a year to return from this type of surgery, among them former Rangers pitcher Scott Feldman. Holland was the Rangers leader in starts and innings pitched in 2013.
