The Tractor Beam the Cowboys Can’t Avoid

The Cowboys oh so close to a 5-3 record and a two game lead in the NFC East. But the .500 tractor beam won't let them go. Dallas snatching defeat from the jaws of victory in a 31-30 loss to the Lions.

A holding call on Doug Free with a minute-14 to go stops the clock, allowing Detroit to get the ball back with 1:02 to play. Even with no timeouts Highland Park's Matthew Stafford is able to drive the Lions down the field and score the game-winning touchdown with 12 seconds to play.

Stafford throws for 488 yards, the fourth 400 yard passer against Dallas this season. Calvin Johnson misses the NFL receiving yardage record by just eight with 329 on the day. And the Cowboys allow a club-record 623 total yards on the day.

The Cowboys reach the halfway point of the season at 4-4.
