David Murphy Saves the Bullpen

For the second straight year Ron Washington uses a position player to pitch on June 4th. Craig Gentry gets the call in Oakland last season, and last night it was David Muprhy. Down 17-5 entering the bottom of the 8th, Murphy is the sixth player to go to the mound for the Rangers, and he's one of the better ones. He allows a leadoff double, then strikes out Mike Carp looking on a knuckleball. Murphy a scoreless inning in the Rangers 17-5 loss to the Red Sox.

Starter Justin Grimm allows 8 runs in 1.2 innings pitched. The A's also lose, staying 1.5 games back in the AL West. Alexi Ogando comes off the DL to start at 6:10 tonight in Boston.
