A terrible night in the field for the Texas Rangers leads to the expected result, a 6-3 loss in Milwaukee.
While there were no errors, the 1st inning was just awful for the Texas defense. It starts with Nelson Cruz mis-playing a ball in right field, reprising his role in the 2011 World Series meltdown. That allows the first run to score.
Pitcher Justin Grimm gets into the act by throwing to the wrong guy when he had a runner picked off 2nd. Then David Murphy takes a terrible track on a ball in left field that allows 2 runs to score. The Brewers cap off the 5 run 1st with a 2-run homer from Yuniesky Betancourt. All the runs in that 1st are earned, but Texas gives up 3 potential outs.
The offense tries to rally, but with the tying run on base in the 6th things come screeching to a halt as Geovany Soto flies out. Soto starting in place of A.J. Pierzynski who was a late scratch with a sore oblique muscle.
The Rangers and Brewers wrap up their short two game series at 7:10 tonight with Derek Holland facing Kyle Loshe on the mound.
